INSTINCTIVE DESIGN FOR A PIONEERING FEMALE-LED MAGAZINE
Fluoro was commissioned to redesign the identity for Boys by Girls’ 16th issue, Breaking Waves – dedicated to changemakers. The magazine explores contemporary masculinity through a female lens, balancing fashion, art, and documentary. Guided by editor-in-chief Cecilie Harris’s vision, we adopted a redesign rooted in Swiss-style typography and thoughtful use of white space, allowing the photography to take centre stage. We created an instinctual journey for the reader, where the relationship between text and imagery feels fluid and adaptive.
Industry Magazine publishingBy employing a grid-based composition, we created layouts that are both expressive and dynamic; yet grounded in the magazine’s clean visual identity. Shifting away from rigid formula, the design allows the photography and editorial content to lead, creating a more natural flow throughout the publication.
The result is a visual language that invites the reader to engage with each page in a meaningful, intuitive way. A feminine design approach to the multifaceted nature of masculinity today.
