BOYS BY GIRLS.

Fluoro was commissioned to redesign the identity for Boys by Girls magazine’s 16th issue, Breaking Waves. Known for exploring contemporary masculinity through a female lens, the publication balances fashion, art, and documentary.

Guided by Cecilie Harris’s vision, we adopted a redesign rooted in Swiss-style typography and thoughtful use of white space, allowing the photography to take center stage.

Our goal was to create an instinctual journey for the reader, where the relationship between text and imagery felt fluid and adaptive. By employing a grid-based composition, we created layouts that were both expressive and dynamic, yet grounded in the magazine’s clean visual identity.

The design shifted away from rigid formula, instead allowing the photography and editorial content to lead, creating a more natural flow throughout the publication. The result was a visual language that invites the reader to engage with each page in a meaningful, intuitive way, highlighting the multifaceted nature of contemporary masculinity through a female lens.
